Cold wave sets in as country’s upper areas receive rain, snowfall

Upper, northern and some western parts of the country received intermittent rain, with snowfall over the hills, on Sunday, making the weather chillier in these areas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Rain in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Swat, Abbottabad, Shangla and in different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) such as Bhimber, Bagh and Rawalakot and Haveli brought down the temperatures considerably. 

Ziarat, a hill resort of Balochistan, and Abbottabad, Galiyat, Dir and Shangla in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Leepa Valley, hills of Bagh and Rawalakot in AJK received first snowfall of the winter season, causing temperatures in some of these areas to drop below zero.

Murree, most popular with the tourists, on the other hand, was lashed by a hailstorm, due to which the temperature nosedived to 4 degrees Celsius.  

Upper Punjab cities of Kharian, Jhelum, Chakwal and Sarai Alamgir also received the first wintery showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, while Nowshera Virkan in central Punjab received light rain, bringing smiles on the faces of farmers who now hope that the rain is beneficial for the wheat crop.

Meanwhile, weather department has forecast rain in different upper and northern parts of the country, including light rain in some of the smog-affected cities of Punjab, including Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot Gujranwala and Hafizabad.

The department has forecast light rain, with snowfall over the hills in Gilgit-Baltistan, AJK and upper parts of KP.
