Prison rules must be followed in Imran Khan family meetings, says Rana Sana

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Friday said any meetings with under-trial prisoners, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s family, must follow legal and prison rules, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Speaking in the Senate in response to a point of public interest raised by opposition Senator Mishal Azam, Rana Sanaullah said such meetings cannot be allowed if they risk disturbing public order or creating unrest.

He added that if the opposition wishes to form a parliamentary committee on this matter, they must first coordinate with their leadership and obtain clear instructions, he said.

Rana Sanaullah highlighted that democracy progresses through dialogue and cited past invitations by the Prime Minister for opposition leaders to discuss issues in Parliament.

Meanwhile, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said there was no discrimination against any province in the supply of electricity and gas, and no loadshedding is being carried out in any district across the country.

He explained, in response to issues raised by senators in Senate, that power outages lasting between one and six hours are carried out solely in districts where electricity theft and line losses fall within the specified criteria.

He stated that all provinces are provided resources on an equal basis and no one can be deprived of their share. He added that unannounced loadshedding is not taking place anywhere in the country. The minister further said measures are being taken to curb oil smuggling, while clarifying that the Pakistan-Iran border remains open.

Students in Balochistan are being awarded scholarships, along with the establishment of Danish schools and cadet villages to support their education.

He said that if Afghanistan seeks trade with Pakistan, it must ensure measures are in place to prevent terror infiltration.

Meanwhile, the Senate passed the “The National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority Bill, 2025.”

The bill, moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, is aimed at establishing the National Agri-trade and Food Safety Authority.

The House has now been prorogued.
