Pakistan vows unwavering support as Kashmir Solidarity Day observed

Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed on Thursday to express support for people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for right to self-determination, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The day drew attention of the international community to the Indian atrocities in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.     

To mark the Day, solidarity walks, seminars, exhibitions were organized across Pakistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir.

One-minute silence was observed across the country at 10:00 am in the morning to pay homage to the martyrs of the Kashmir freedom movement.

Human chain formed at Kohala Bridge

A ceremony marking Kashmir Solidarity Day was held at Kohala Bridge on Thursday, where participants formed a human chain and reaffirmed support for the people of Kashmir.

The event included flag hoisting and the playing of the national anthem, with officials, community representatives and citizens attending.

Participants said the gathering symbolised unity with Kashmiris and aimed to highlight their cause at national and international levels.

Speakers reiterated Pakistan’s continued moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people and called for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Sirens were sounded during the event, and participants observed a one-minute silence to pay tribute to those affected by the conflict.

Rally in Islamabad calls for UN-backed resolution

A rally was held in the federal capital on Thursday to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day, with participants expressing support for the people of Kashmir and calling for a peaceful resolution of the longstanding dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The rally, organised from China Chowk to D-Chowk, was led by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Engineer Amir Muqam.

Hurriyat representatives, political figures and a large number of citizens participated, carrying banners and placards highlighting solidarity with Kashmiris.

Speakers at the rally emphasised the need for continued international attention on the Kashmir issue and urged the global community to facilitate a peaceful settlement in line with UN commitments.

They reiterated Pakistan’s continued moral, political and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people.

Kashmir Solidarity Day is observed annually on February 5 across Pakistan to express support for Kashmiris and to draw attention to the unresolved status of the disputed region.

PM Shehbaz in Muzaffarabad

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday arrived here in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to address the special session of the AJK Legislative Assembly, in connection with the Kashmir Solidarity Day.

On his arrival, Prime Minister Shehbaz was welcomed by Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore and senior government officials.

The prime minister’s is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Federal Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Yousaf, and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirm their unwavering moral, diplomatic and political support for Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their just cause to achieve the right to self-determination as enshrined in the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In their separate messages, they urged the international community to move beyond mere expressions of concern for the Kashmiri people and persuade India to stop the human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The president and the PM said that the people of Pakistan across the globe stand united with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their just struggle.

Both recalled that the observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day was initiated 36 years ago by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto following the historic Kashmiri uprising of 1989, a movement that continues to this day.

President Zardari PM Shehbaz said that for nearly eight decades they have remained steadfast in the face of what he termed illegal Indian occupation, rendering immense sacrifices for their fundamental rights and freedoms.

Both expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), stating that the unilateral and illegal actions of August 5, 2019 had further aggravated the plight of the Kashmiri people.

Both said India had intensified efforts to entrench its control through administrative and legislative measures, curbing media freedoms, incarcerating Kashmiri leadership and attempting to alter the demographic composition of the territory.

The president and PM also highlighted what he described as grave human rights violations by Indian occupation forces, citing international reports that point to a rise in arbitrary detentions, collective punishment and punitive house demolitions.

Both added that the suppression of digital freedoms, including the blocking of thousands of social media accounts, reflected attempts to conceal the realities on the ground.

Referring to the recent profiling of mosques and mosque management committees in IIOJK, President Zardari and PM Shehbaz termed these actions as deliberate intimidation aimed at restricting the religious freedom of the Muslim majority population.

Both said such measures were part of a broader pattern of religious persecution and stressed that Kashmiris have an inalienable right to practice their religion without fear or discrimination.

The president and the PM warned that the military escalation initiated by India in May 2025 underscored the fragility of peace in South Asia, emphasizing that lasting regional stability was impossible without a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Calling on the international community to move beyond expressions of concern, President Zardari and PM Shehbaz urged it to press India to end human rights violations in IIOJK, allow unhindered access to international human rights observers and fulfill its commitment to granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, both said the country would continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Kashmiri people until they are able to determine their future through a free and impartial plebiscite.

Meanwhile, in their messages on Kashmir Day, Chief of Defence Forces and the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Armed Forces of Pakistan have reaffirmed unwavering support for the resilient people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for self-determination. 

According to ISPR, The Pakistan Armed Forces reiterated that a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, remains essential for lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar called upon the international community to take decisive actions to address the worsening human rights situation in IIOJK and ensure accountability for India’s illegal and unilateral actions.

The deputy prime minister, in his message on “Kashmir Solidarity Day” annually observed on February 5, urged the world to persuade India to implement the United Nations Security Council resolutions and allow the Kashmiri people their promised right to self-determination.

He reiterated Pakistan’s firm and unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their just struggle for the right to self-determination.

“Under illegal Indian occupation, the Kashmiri people remain deprived of their fundamental rights. Yet, their resilience testifies the legitimacy of their just cause.”

Love for Kashmir runs like blood in our hearts: CM Maryam

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that the love for Kashmir runs like blood in the heart of every Pakistani.

In her statement on Kashmir Solidarity Day, Maryam Nawaz said tribute to the Kashmiri martyrs who sacrificed their lives to keep the flame of the right to self-determination alight. 

Salutes the Kashmiris who have been fighting Indian brutality for seven decades, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said Indian barbarity has turned the paradise-like valley into a prison.  

Maryam Nawaz Sharif urged the United Nations and other international organizations should play their legal role against human rights violations in Kashmir. 

Until a lasting solution to the Kashmir issue, lasting peace in the region will remain a dream, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said the sacrifices of the oppressed Kashmiris will not go in vain. 

Pakistan will continue to provide diplomatic, political and moral support to the Kashmiris, Maryam Nawaz said.

She said Pakistan will continue to raise voice in favor of the Kashmiri people at every international forum. 

Insha Allah, the Kashmiri people will soon see the sun of freedom, Maryam Nawaz said.
