Ramazan likely to begin on Feb 19 as moon sighting expected on Feb 18

Ramazan is expected to begin on February 19 in Pakistan, as strong chances of sighting the holy month’s crescent have been forecast for the evening of February 18, 24NewsHD TV reported on Thursday. 

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the current Islamic month of Shaban is expected to last 29 days this year.

As a result, the crescent marking the start of Ramazan is likely to be sighted on the evening of February 18, with the first fast anticipated on February 19.

The department stated that the new moon will be born on February 17 at 5:01 pm.

By the following evening, the age of the moon and prevailing weather conditions are expected to be favourable for sighting, significantly increasing the chances of visibility.

Observers across various areas of Pakistan are likely to witness the Ramazan crescent on February 18, reinforcing expectations that the holy month will commence nationwide on February 19.

In Karachi, the moon’s age at sunset on February 18 is projected to be around 26 hours.

The sun is expected to set at 6:25 pm, while the moon will set at 7:24 pm, providing a suitable window for moon sighting.

The official commencement of Ramazan will be announced following confirmation by the relevant religious authorities after the traditional moon sighting process.
