M4, M5 motorways closed for traffic due to dense fog
The Motorway Police Central Region on Monday announced the temporary closure of major sections of motorways for heavy vehicles due to dense fog, aiming to ensure the safety of road users.
According to a spokesperson, Motorway M4 has been closed for heavy traffic from Pindi Bhattian to Multan, while Motorway M5 has been shut for heavy vehicles from Multan to Zahir Peer because of poor visibility caused by fog. The spokesperson said the precautionary measure was taken to protect lives and property amid hazardous driving conditions.
The Motorway Police warned that lane violations during foggy conditions can lead to serious and potentially fatal accidents. Road users were advised to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of low visibility.
Travellers were further advised to plan their journeys during safer hours, preferably between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm, when visibility is relatively better. Drivers were instructed to use fog lights, avoid speeding, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead.
For guidance, updates, or assistance, commuters can contact the Motorway Police helpline at 130. The Motorway Police Central Region reiterated its commitment to ensuring safe travel and urged the public to cooperate by following traffic advisories.
