Accused remanded in police custody: Minister says attack was jointly planned by BLA and BLF: Points to neighbouring country s role

The law-enforcement agencies Tuesday arrested a key suspect, belonging to a banned terrorist organisation, who reportedly had connections with the husband of the female suicide bomber who had blown herself up to kill Chinese teachers at Karachi University, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

This was revealed during a joint press conference addressed by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon and CTD officials in Karachi on Tuesday. 

He said that the accused was the BLF commander and he was arrested from Hawks Bay on July 4. He revealed that the accused kept on doing the recce of the sensitive installations and Chinese nationals. He also met with two other terrorists including the husband of the female suicide bomber.  

Mr Memon said that the Karachi university suicide attack was jointly planned by the defunct Balochistan Liberation Force and Balochistan Liberation Army. But the mastermind of the attack identified as Zeb entered Pakistan from our neighboring country, the minister added. He said that Zeb entered the university before Shari Baloch, the female bomber. He claimed that the bomber was not alone at the time of the blast. A person was with her constantly. Her husband and some other people also helped the bomber to carry out the attack at the university. 

The minister vowed to bring the culprits to justice. 

Mr Memon warned the parents to keep an eye on the activities of their children lest they should become an instrument in the hands of disruptive elements. 

According to the police sources, the suspected terrorist was trained in making explosives and bombs.

KU blast accused remanded in police custody 

Meanwhile, the alleged mastermind of the Karachi University suicide bomb was produced before an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday.

During the court hearing today, the CTD police informed the court that the suspect is a commander of banned BLF-Karachi and the mastermind of the attack on Chinese teachers outside KU’s Confucius Institute in April this year.

They also said that he was involved in facilitating attacks on other Chinese citizens in Karachi.

Later, the ATC remanded the suspect in CTD police custody till July 16.

It may be recalled that on April 26, at least four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed while four others were injured in a suicide attack carried out by a female bomber outside the University of Karachi s (KU) Confucius Institute.
