Hospital declares newborn dead, hands over baby to family on police intervention

A newborn baby girl who was declared dead at Sahiwal Teaching Hospital was later handed over alive to her family over police intervention, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel. 

According to the family, the newborn baby girl, daughter of Muhammad Ashraf, a resident of Chak 109/9-L was declared dead by the administration of the children's ward and a death certificate was also issued.

The family claimed that despite issuing death certificate to the family, hospital's doctors were reluctant to handed over the body of newborn. The heirs alleged that the hospital administration have kidnapped the newborn.

The hospital's administration got alarmed after the family staged protest and contacted police emergency helpline 15.

The staff of the hospital handed over the baby girl alive only after police's intervention.

The family accused the hospital administration that they deliberately declared the newborn dead and demanded that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif should take notice of the incident to prevent such cases in the future. 

When contacted for their version, the Medical Superintendent (MS) and Deputy Medical Superintendent of the hospital did not respond.
