LNG supply to Pakistan disrupted as Iran shuts Strait of Hormuz amid US, Israeli bombing

Pakistan is likely to face disruptions in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following Israeli and American attacks on Iran, sources in the Petroleum Division told 24NewsHD TV on Thursday.

According to sources, LNG shipments from Qatar to Pakistan have been halted until the prevailing war-like situation subsides. Pakistan was scheduled to receive eight LNG cargoes during the month of March, but only two have arrived so far.

The remaining six cargoes, which were expected to reach Pakistan on March 7, 11, 12, 16, 20 and 21, are now unlikely to arrive due to the disruption in maritime routes, sources added.

Officials said the country will have to manage energy requirements with the LNG currently available in the system. To conserve supplies, authorities may resort to load shedding from March 20 to 21 in order to maintain limited LNG availability.

Sources warned that the situation could significantly affect LNG supply for power generation across the country. In addition, gas supply to several sectors, including the industrial sector, may also face disruptions if the crisis continues.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation and considering contingency measures to manage the potential energy shortfall.
