Punjab Food Authority’s marathon operation

Punjab Food Authority on Tuesday conducted a marathon operation against the fake beverages and toffee-making factories and seized a large consignment of fake chemicals being used in the manufacturing of these products.

The 24NewsHD TV channel reported that PFA Director Operations Multan Shehzad Magsi led the raid against the adulterators in and around the Gala Mandi and seized 7,500 empty bottles, 1,675 kg coloured toffees, 677 kg beverages and 75 kg non-food grade material.

PFA Director General Irfan Memon said that 300 litres of fake RoohAfza (non-alcoholic concentrated squash), 48 litres flavoured drinks were discarded on the spot.

The DG said on proving the adulteration of the drinks which was being used as one of the most frequent product during Ramazan, the Al-Habib Foods, Gujjer Foods, Momina Foods and NWH Foods were sealed.

The samples of the RoohAfza and other drinks being manufactured in the factories have been sent to the laboratory for further verifications.

The DG said that fake chemicals being used in the manufacturing of sweet drinks were causing health hazards.
