Iftikhar Shalawani will be Karachi’s Administrator
The TV channel reported that Murad Ali Shah-led Sindh government has decided to appoint the 21-grade officer of Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS) Iftikhar Shalawani as Karachi’s new administrator.
A notification will be issued on Saturday after final consultation with Prime Minister Imran Khan who had landed in Karachi with a magnanimous aid package to resolve the city’s problems, the TV channel said, quoting its sources.
Iftikhar Shalawani prior to Local Bodies Secretary, served as Karachi Commissioner. He will be the first administrator of the port-city after the tenure of Karachi’s Mayor Waseem Akhter was completed on 28 August.
It is pertinent to note that the former mayor Waseem Akhter after serving four years in Karachi, in his last press conference admitted that he was not able to serve the people of Karachi because he was the toothless mayor who had no powers at all.
Recent monsoon rain spells submerged the city low-lying and urban areas with water and city had faced rain havoc in the form of urban flooding. People from all walks of life expressed their grief over the loss of precious lives but also generated a political debate at national level to resolve the city’s problems once for all including cleaning of nullahs, improvising waste collection system and proper sewerage system to avoid havocs of urban floods in future.
