Sonya Hussyn continues to spread awareness about mental illness

The conundrum of mental illnesses in Pakistan has a lot to do with the way they are represented in the media.

In fact, the stigma attached to them usually emerges from the lack of representation altogether.

While our television industry has managed to put out a few serials dedicated to highlighting the issue, Pakistani cinema continues to lag, possibly because of the fear of spreading misinformation.

Actress Sonya Hussyn took to social media to shed light about mental health. She uploaded a picture and wrote: “If your mental illness makes you feel guilty, review the definition of ‘illness’ and treat yourself with the same respect and concern you would show to a heart patient.”

She further adds, “It’s time to destigmatize mental illness in any form.”
