SMEDA, SBP directed to resolve SME credit access crisis

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar says government is actively working on introducing a fixed tax regime for Small and Medium Enterprises.

He was talking to the representatives of the Sialkot Small and Medium Enterprise Cluster in Sialkot today. Haroon Akhtar announced a new incentive package based on electricity consumption, under which electricity tariffs will decrease as industrial units consume more units. Special Assistant directed SMEDA and the Trade Development Authority to jointly develop a strategy for establishing proper accreditation.

He further emphasized upgrading existing laboratories to meet international certification standards. Highlighting SMEDA's vital role in national economic development, he said SMEs must be transformed into dollar-generating enterprises.
