SC rejects plea seeking fresh probe into Islamia University Bahawalpur sex scandal

The constitutional bench (CB) of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday threw out the petition, seeking reinvestigation into the Islamia University Bahawalpur sex scandal, as inadmissible for the hearing, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

A seven-member bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, heard the plea.

Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Zulfiqar Bhutta, the petitioner, said that the investigation done by the Lahore High Court (LHC) judge into the scandal was not reliable. “Several cases of blackmailing of students are in my knowledge,” he said, and added that Section 354 applied to the case under review.  

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, however, disagreed with him and remarked that the section could not be invoked in the case.

Advocate Bhutta said what he wanted was that the section be amended for the purpose. 

Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel asked how the court could ask the parliament to legislate.  

The judge further asked, “How could the court give a ruling in the absence of the affected party?” 

Justice Mazhar asked the petitioner whether he had approached the LHC under Article 199. “You better approach the high court,” he advised.

Justice Aminuddin said that an LHC judge had conducted an investigation after which the matter was settled.
