Soon after winning the vote of confidence from the parliament, Prime Minister Imran Khan met with Federal Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh and asked him to continue working as federal Finance Minister, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel Saturday.

PM Imran reposed his full trust in Hafeez and said he has played an efficient role in the revival of the country’s economy.

According to the sources, Hafeez Sheikh has also postponed his early plan to resign from the post after meeting with the prime minister.

Hafeez Sheikh had joined Khan’s cabinet as an Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Finance after a cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Imran Khan in April 2019.

On 11 December 2020, he was appointed as Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue so he was required to become an elected parliamentarian within six months under the Constitutional requirement.

After his defeat in the Senate election at the hands of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, it seems unlikely that he would become a parliamentarian anytime sooner. Now the government will have a time-frame till June 10, 2021 for the continuation of his office, then he will have to leave.

He may be retained is the cabinet in his previous capacity as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Finance.
