Court puts off Sara Inam murder case hearing until Oct 9

A district and sessions court in Islamabad on Thursday adjourned the hearing of Sara Inam murder case until October 9 on account of the absence of defence lawyer, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Basharatullah, counsel for the defendant Shah Nawaz Amir, failed to show up due to his engagements.

However, Prosecutor Rana Hassan Abbas, Sara’s father Inamur Raheem and investigation officer (IO) in the case Habibur Rehman appeared in the court.

Today the defence lawyer had to cross-examine the investigation officer.

Sarah Inam, a Canadian national, was murdered by her husband Shah Nawaz Amir, son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, at a farmhouse in Islamabad’s Shehzad Town area a year ago.

The police had become a complainant in the case, with a first information report (FIR) registered on the complaint of Shahzad Town Station House Officer (SHO) Nawazish Ali Khan at the Chak Shahzad police station.

The development came after Sara’s uncle had filed an application with the police, alleging that Shah Nawaz had murdered Sara in collusion with his parents.

The FIR stated that when the police team reached the farmhouse where the murder had taken place, they were received by mother of the main suspect who told them that her son had “murdered his wife during a scuffle”.

As per the FIR, the police entered the house and detained the suspect whose hands were ‘soaked in blood’ at the time of the arrest.

During the inquiry, Shah Nawaz confessed to have murdered his wife with a dumbbell.
