Two people die in rain-related incidents in Punjab
PDMA says more rains expected in different parts of province
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday said that two people were killed due to rain and strong winds in different incidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours, while 14 people were injured and damage was caused to 10 buildings, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
On the other hand, as per the statistics released by the PDMA, the highest amount of rainfall (113 millimeters) was recorded in Multan followed by Faisalabad, which received 78 millimeters of rain. Similarly, the Authority spokesman informed, 44 millimeters of rain was recorded in Bahawalpur, 40 mm of rain in Lahore, 28 mm in Khanewal, 25 mm in Sialkot and Toba Tek Singh each, 18 mm in Jhelum, 10 mm in Attock, eight millimeters in Gujranwala, Murree and Sahiwal each, seven mm in Okara, six mm in Narowal, five millimeters in Mangla, three millimeters in Gujrat and Hafizabad each, while one millimeters in Layyah and Kasur each.
He further said that a majority of districts of the province were expected to receive showers during the next 24 hours. “There are chances of rain in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha and Mianwali,” he explained.
He informed that due to rains, there would be an increase in water levels in rivers Jhelum, Chenab and Indus, streams and nullahs. “However, an increase in water levels in rivers Sutlej and Ravi depends upon the release of water by India,” the spokesman informed.
On the other hand, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said that commissioners, deputy commissioners and other officers were on high alert.
He advised the people to take precautionary measures in view of inclement weather. “In case of an emergency, contact on helpline number 1129.”
