As the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) continues the process of accountability within its ranks, it has shown the door to an engineer who has been allegedly involved in corruption of millions of rupees.
Aircraft Engineer Amir Zulfiqar of Pay Group-8 had been deployed at the PIA Engineering in Karachi. The engineer allegedly received money from 28 employees of the Line Maintenance Division in the name of a training course on Boeing 777. The engineer received Rs11.76 million from the employees using the name of a private business titled Aerospace Business.
The accused had appointed his wife as CEO of the Aerospace Business and had registered his business in Singapore. The employees of the Line Maintenance Division, who had paid more than Rs400,000 per head, complained to the management when they were not given training. Action was taken on employees’ complaint and engineer Amir’s services were terminated on September 2 after a thorough investigation into the charges against him. He was given a fair chance to defend himself, says a spokesperson for the PIA.
