The polio eradication campaign in Balochistan has been deferred once again for an indefinite period on Wednesday due to a protest by the government employees, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A five-day vaccination campaign against polio was scheduled to begin today in 33 districts of the province. However, it was put off again – this was the third deferment.

According to the Emergency Operation Centre Quetta, the campaign to be held on April 5 had already been postponed.

The Balochistan health department had postponed a five-day vaccination campaign against polio across the province due to the ongoing strike of the government employees who have been holding a sit-in for the past one week.

The anti-polio campaign was scheduled to kick off on April 5, as the Emergency Operations Centre in Quetta had completed all arrangements for it.

The vaccination drive was planned for all 33 districts in Balochistan, including Quetta. “The campaign was postponed as health workers and other volunteers were not available due to the strike of the government employees,” said health officials.

It was for a second time that the campaign had been postponed, as previously it had been planned for March 29.
