Bid to smuggle betel nuts worth Rs2.5m foiled in Karachi

Police thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,200 kilograms of betel nuts worth Rs2.5 million and arrested two persons in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.

The incident took place in the Manghopir area of Karachi. Police said that during routine checking, they intercepted a truck at the entrance point of the City.

During the check, the police found 100 sacks of betel nuts, which were tactfully hidden under the guise of fruit.

Later, the police seized the betel nuts and also impounded the truck. The police, after registering a case against the accused, handed them over to the Pakistan Customs authorities.

The arrested persons were later identified as Gul Mohammad and Kashmir Khan.
