FIA just announced that they released journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat on bail. According to FIA press release both journalists were arrested for their alleged contempt against Judiciary, Army and some “women” but FIA never mentioned the names of the “women” pic.twitter.com/9WDBRkHxKd— Hamid Mir (@HamidMirPAK) August 7, 2021
In his tweet, he said that FIA, in its press release, had stated that both of them had been arrested for making contemptuous remarks against the judiciary, army and some ‘women’.
FIA Cyber Crimes Wing Lahore kidnapped journalist Amir Mir in Lahore this morning, snatched his phone and laptop. We came to know about his location after 5 hours. FIA also arrested another journalist Syed Shafqat Imran this morning from Lahore. #PressFreedom— Hamid Mir (@HamidMirPAK) August 7, 2021
The former ruling party said it will stage a protest inside Punjab Assembly on Monday.
Journalists being “picked up” in this manner is unacceptable. What crimes are they charged with? Where is the due process of law? Weekend pickups mean they will stay in lockup until Monday. We expect clarity in law on why Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat have been summarily arrested https://t.co/YklxrsLOVV— SenatorSherryRehman (@sherryrehman) August 7, 2021
