Temperatures plunge across country after recent spell of rain, snow

Most parts of the country are presently in the grip of extremely cold weather following recent spell of rain and snow, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Temperatures have dropped considerably in Islamabad as the minimum temperature in the federal capital was recorded at 3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday while the maximum was expected to go up to 16 degrees Celsius.

Temperature in the morning was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said that the weather would remain bitterly cold in the city during the next 24 hours while there were no chances of rain.

It further said that winds would blow in the city throughout the day at the speed of nine kilometers per hour.

The level of humidity was recorded at over 50 per cent.

Cold weather in Punjab

The situation is no different in Punjab, including Lahore, where extremely cold winds are testing people’s patience.

Temperature in the morning was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius.

The weather department said that the maximum temperature would go up to 15 degrees Celsius, while it would remain 5 degrees Celsius on the minimum side.

The level of moisture in the air in the morning was recorded at 95 per cent, while breeze was blowing at the speed of five kilometers per hour.

The Met Office predicted bitterly cold and dry weather for the provincial capital during the next 24 hours.

Temperatures to plummet in Karachi

Winter season is no more confined to the country’s upper and central parts as nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to single digits in the country’s south, including Karachi, in the coming days under the impact of Siberian winds.

Temperature in Karachi in the morning was recorded at 14 degrees Celsius.

The weather in the port city will be colder in the morning and at night.

Breeze was blowing from the north-east in the morning while the level of humidity was recorded at 60 per cent.

The Met Office forecast that the maximum temperature in the city on Wednesday would fluctuate between 24 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius.

Motorways closed in Punjab

Different parts of the Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) were again engulfed by fog on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to close different sections of the motorway for traffic.

M-1 was closed from Peshawar to Burhan, while M-2 was closed from Thokar Niaz Beg to Chakri Interchange.

Similarly, M-3 was closed from Faizpur to Darkhana; M-4, from Pindi Bhattian to Sher Shah, M-5, from Rohri to Multan, M-11, from Lahore to Sialkot and M-14, from Thatty Kalran to Isa Khel.

Fog was also reported from different cities of Sindh namely Jacobabad, Qambar, Kandiaro, Kashmore and Jaafarabad in Balochistan.
