NDMA warns of heavier monsoon rains from July 12

The National Disaster Management Authority has forecast a significant increase in monsoon rains across Pakistan in the coming days, with another weather system expected to enter the country on July 12.

NDMA technical expert Dr. Tayyab told 24 News that a low-pressure system was moving from India’s Madhya Pradesh toward Pakistan, while moisture from the Arabian Sea had already entered the country.

He said a westerly system was also moving into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, strengthening monsoon activity.

Dr. Tayyab said the current weather system was expected to remain strongest on July 7 and 8, while rain was likely to continue in northern areas on July 9 and 10.

Meanwhile, the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center issued a landslide alert for the JSR/Skardu-Roundu Road from July 7 to 9.

The alert said Skardu and nearby areas, including Bromdo Nala, Chamchu, Malupa and the Dambudas-Tormik-Haramosh section, could face localised landslides over the next two days.

The NDMA urged travellers and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous and landslide-prone areas and stay away from unstable slopes.

The authority also directed local administrations to remain on high alert and ensure emergency response teams are fully prepared.
