Punjab Assembly privileges panel settles dispute after DPO apologises

A meeting of the Punjab Assembly's Privileges Committee on Tuesday resolved a privileges motion after a district police officer (DPO) tendered an unconditional apology to lawmakers over his conduct while entering the Assembly premises.

The committee met to examine objections raised by members regarding the DPO's manner of entering the House.

During the proceedings, lawmakers also protested the conduct of a security officer, alleging that he failed to salute Assembly members upon entering the House.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Bilal Yameen said saluting members when entering the Assembly was part of parliamentary traditions and a sign of respect for the legislature.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, Bilal Yameen announced that he would leave the committee meeting in protest.

The DPO, however, admitted his mistake before the committee and offered an unconditional apology to the Assembly members.

Following the apology, committee members accepted the explanation, and the matter was resolved amicably, bringing the privileges motion to a close.
