Badshah faces FIR over ‘Tateeree’ amid offensive content allegations

Rapper-singer Badshah is Involved in controversy as his latest Haryanvi track Tateeree faces legal Investigation for allegedly obscene lyrics and school-set visuals.

An FIR has been filed in Panchkula, prompting an investigation under Indian laws protecting public decency and women from indecent portrayal.

The release of Tateeree has triggered backlash over claims that the song contains offensive language, suggestive gestures, and visuals showing girls in school uniforms. Residents raised concerns about the track’s impact on societal norms, leading to an FIR at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Sector 20, Panchkula.

The FIR cites potential violations of Section 296 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses acts that outrage public decency or disturb social harmony, as well as Sections 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, which prohibit the circulation of material portraying women indecently. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

Complaints were also lodged with state authorities. Savita Arya, president of the Nari Tu Narayani Utthan Samiti in Panipat, approached the Haryana State Women’s Commission (HSWC), while lawyer Rajnarayan Panghal filed a complaint with the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. The objections focus on lyrics such as, “Aaya Badshah doli chadhaane, in sabki ghodi banaane,” which allegedly objectify women and minors.

HSWC chairperson Renu Bhatia confirmed that the commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and issued a formal summons to Badshah. She also questioned how the track cleared regulatory scrutiny, citing her experience on the Film Censor Board.

Tateeree, released on March 1, 2026, features Badshah alongside vocalist Simran Jaglan, with music composed by Hiten. The video, directed by Mahi Sandhu and Joban Sandhu, blends Haryanvi folk influences with contemporary rap beats.

The FIR and regulatory scrutiny have sparked widespread debate online about artistic freedom, decency standards, and the responsibilities of creators in depicting sensitive themes.
