Mobile and internet services suspended in Quetta amid PTI rally

Mobile and internet services were suspended once again in Quetta on Friday as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced plans to hold a public rally at the Hockey Ground. 

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Quetta administration, however, denied permission for the gathering, citing security concerns.

Security across the provincial capital has been placed on high alert. Containers have been placed at Tor Nasser Phatak, Koyla Phatak, and Sariab Road to block access routes.

The roads leading to the Red Zone and the Ayub Sports Complex have been sealed off, while entry to the Civil Secretariat and adjoining areas has also been blocked using containers.

Despite the ban, PTI had announced its intention to hold a rally at the Hockey Ground today, but the district administration refused to grant approval for the event. 

Heavy contingents of police have been deployed at all entry and exit points of the city, and citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

Section 144 has been imposed in Quetta, prohibiting all types of public gatherings and sit-ins. 

The internet shutdown has caused serious inconvenience to residents and students, disrupting daily communication and online activities.

It is pertinent to mention that on October 31, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported that authorities had previously suspended internet services across Quetta on the recommendation of the Balochistan government due to security concerns. 

The provincial Home Department had sent a letter to the federal government requesting a temporary suspension of internet services, which, according to department sources, was implemented for security reasons.
