A security guard of renowned religious cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum on Tuesday foiled attempt on the cleric’s life, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Ali Hassan, from Gujrat, who was hiding a sharp-edged weapon in his clothes, shoved the guard while trying to enter the Research Academy’s building, the police said, adding at that time, Mirza was present inside the building.

The suspect, the police added, later confessed he had come to the building in order to kill the religious scholar.

Investigation into the incident has begun after registration of the case at City Police Station.
