Protest against petrol levy: JI to hold rallies in Lahore and Karachi tomorrow

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Hafiz Naeemur Rehman announced to hold big public rallies in Lahore and Karachi tomorrow if the government does not withdraw the petroleum levy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that another round of talks with the government will be held in Islamabad today at 6 pm.

He said that Jamaat-e-Islami only wanted the immediate withdrawal of the petroleum levy, and if the government does not withdraw the levy then there is no need for any talks with the government team.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded forensic audit of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz aircraft scam.

The JI Amir said that whenever the Sharif family comes to power, the farmers end up in a dire state.

Earlier on September 15, 2026, Jamaat-e-Islami rejected the Prime Minister’s recent petroleum relief package as insufficient yet again demanded the complete abolition of the petroleum levy.

PM Shehbaz announced a “relief scheme” for users of motorcycles, autos and vehicles of up to 800cc to “alleviate the burden” of rising global oil prices. The JI chief’s remarks come as the party remains engaged in talks with the government over the petroleum levy.
