Five PTI leaders face MPO detention in Lahore; 150 booked in Sialkot FIR

Detention orders have been issued against five Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers in Lahore under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance (MPO), while police in Sialkot have registered a separate case against PTI leaders and dozens of unidentified workers, according to 24NewsHD TV.

According to the details, the decision to detain the five individuals was taken at a meeting of the District Intelligence Committee held a day ago. The committee recommended their detention on the basis of information and reports provided by the police.

Senior police officers, including the SP Model Town, SP City and SP Saddar, recommended that the individuals be detained under the relevant provisions of the law.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ejaz subsequently issued detention orders under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

Police reports cited by the authorities allege that the individuals had raised provocative slogans against the government and state institutions. Police officials said their activities could pose a threat to public order and public safety.

The authorities have ordered that all five individuals be detained for 30 days at Kot Lakhpat Central Jail.

Police and other relevant departments have been directed to implement the detention orders.

PTI Lahore President Mian Akram Usman was among party leaders detained by police earlier this week.

The allegations contained in the police reports and the preventive detention orders remain subject to legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Sialkot Police have registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders and dozens of unidentified workers at Kotwali Police Station.

According to the FIR, more than 10 serious sections of the Pakistan Penal Code have been included in the case, along with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and Section 16 of the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.

The FIR names Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Saeed Bhalli, Umar Dar and Barrister Jamshed Ghias among the accused. Between 100 and 150 named and unidentified people have been included in the case.

According to the police account recorded in the FIR, protesters allegedly raised slogans, created tension and attempted to disturb public order against the government. The FIR further alleges that protesters threw stones at a police party and attacked officers with sticks.

The FIR states that a government vehicle, registration number STG/17, was damaged during the incident and its windscreen was broken. It also alleges that public property suffered extensive damage.

Police further alleged that armed protesters opened fire with the intention of killing police officers. According to the FIR, police personnel ran for safety during the incident.

A police officer injured in the incident was taken to Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

The case has been registered as police continue action following the reported confrontation in Sialkot. The allegations contained in the FIR have yet to be established in court.
