CM Punjab ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ named among world’s top five housing in intiatives

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s flagship housing initiative, “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar,” has been shortlisted for the prestigious United Nations-Habitat Scroll of Honor Award, reported 24NewsHD TV.

The program has been selected among five housing initiatives from around the world for the annual UN-Habitat recognition, which honors initiatives making significant contributions to providing safe and adequate housing.

According to the Punjab government, the program was selected following a comprehensive and competitive review of housing projects being implemented across the world.

The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award will be presented during the global World Habitat Day celebrations on October 5.

The award ceremony will be held next month in Muscat, Oman, where a series of seminars and workshops focusing on housing and urban development will also take place from October 6 to 8.

The Punjab government said the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative has provided low-income families with access to financing for the construction of their own homes.

Under the program, loans worth Rs260 billion have been allocated for the construction of more than 200,000 houses.

The initiative has also been described by the provincial government as Pakistan’s largest and first fully digital housing finance scheme.

During the first phase, more than Rs196 billion in loans were disbursed for 134,439 houses, while the second phase saw loans exceeding Rs62 billion issued for around 65,000 houses.

The government further stated that approximately 125,000 families have already moved into homes constructed under the program.
