Swat Jirga voices concern at rising incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa North chapter of the Jamaat-e-Islami hosted a grand peace Jirga (tribal council) in the Saidu Sharif area of Swat on Sunday.

Political and social organizations and tribal elders of the area attended the Saidu Sharif grand peace Jirga. The Jirga participants highlighted the sacrifices given by the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for peace and Pakistan and said that incidents of terrorism in the Malakand Division are not tolerable. They said that thousands of people have been martyred and wounded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last two decades.

They said that check-posts in the Malakand Division were a source of humiliation for the locals and these should be dismantled immediately. They said that Pakhtun people’s blood should not be a source of income for some people. They expressed their strong reservations about the target killings and the poor law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They called for immediate arrest of those involved in the martyrdom of people at a convention in Bajaur.

They said that they will launch a peaceful protest movement if the government fails to address the issues highlighted by the Jirga. The demanded a judicial commission consisting of retired judges of the Supreme Court to look into the issues highlighted by the Jirga. They said that they would publish a white paper on deaths and destruction caused by the incidents of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
