Yasir Arafat joins South Africa as bowling consultant for Tri-Nation ODI series

Former Pakistan all-rounder Yasir Arafat has been appointed as South Africa’s bowling consultant for the upcoming tri-nation ODI series featuring host Pakistan and New Zealand.

His inclusion in the Proteas’ coaching staff marks another milestone in his coaching career, having previously worked with top teams in England and Australia.

Yasir, who played three Tests, 11 ODIs, and 13 T20Is for Pakistan, arrived in Lahore from London and has already joined South Africa’s training camp.

The Proteas will face New Zealand in their opening match on February 10.

Speaking to the media after joining the South African camp, Yasir Arafat expressed confidence in the squad.

“South Africa’s key players are not part of this series due to injuries or other reasons, but despite that, this is still a very strong team,” he remarked.

He acknowledged that the unavailability of experienced players was a challenge but emphasized the opportunity it presented for younger players.

“Of course, not having big names is a disadvantage, but it also gives new players a chance to learn and prove themselves,” he added.

The former all-rounder said he would use his experience to guide the South African bowling attack.

“They considered the conditions before bringing me in, and I will give my best to help the team,” Yasir noted.

Yasir Arafat also commended the team environment within the South African squad, emphasizing the strong culture of learning and adaptability.

Furthermore, he appreciated the recent renovation efforts at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which will serve as a key venue for the Champions Trophy.

“I have been following all the updates from England, and the way you covered Gaddafi Stadium’s transformation deserves appreciation,” he added.
