JUI-F chief rejects govt’s legitimacy

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday rejected the legitimacy of the current government and reaffirmed his party’s decision to serve as part of the opposition, 24NewsHD TV reported.

Speaking to party workers at Rawalpindi, Rehman termed the outcome of the general elections held on Feb 8, 2004, as “fraudulent” and said the present government operates on a “fake mandate.”

He vowed that JUI-F is not seeking power for its own sake, adding that the party’s objective is not merely to attain political office but to uphold constitutional principles and democratic norms.

Rehman criticized the formation of the current government, alleging that certain parties were forcibly merged to create a majority, which he described as “a mockery of democracy.”

The JUI-F chief also challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), claiming that electoral results were manipulated externally and that the commission failed to independently declare even a single constituency outcome.

He called the ECP a “puppet body” unprecedented globally.

Rehman further said JUI-F seeks to guide the nation through constitutional means.

He also criticized recent remarks by the Prime Minister suggesting former US President Donald Trump should receive a “global peace award”, calling it an example of political sycophancy and lack of judgment.

Rehman concluded by asserting that JUI-F will continue its principled stance, even if it means opposing powerful political figures.
