72 DSPs nominated for promotion to SP rank in Punjab Police

The new year has begun on a positive note for deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) in Punjab, as promotion recommendations for 72 officers have been finalised and sent to the Punjab government for approval.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, Inspector General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar has forwarded the recommendations for the promotion of eligible DSPs to the post of superintendent of police (SP). The final approval will be granted by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, after which an official notification of the promotions will be issued.

The promotion recommendations were finalized during a meeting of the Promotions Board held under the chairmanship of Punjab Police IG Dr. Usman Anwar. During the meeting, the cases of 120 officers were thoroughly reviewed in line with merit, service rules and regulations.

Out of these, 72 officers were declared eligible for promotion. Among them, 27 officers have been recommended for promotion on a regular basis, while another 27 officers have been found eligible for promotion on an officiating basis. Additionally, recommendations have been compiled for 18 officers to continue working on an officiating basis.

Punjab Police officials termed the development a significant step towards strengthening the force’s leadership structure and boosting morale among officers. The promotions are expected to enhance operational efficiency and further improve policing standards across the province.

The officers concerned are now awaiting the formal notification following the chief minister’s approval, which will officially mark the beginning of their new responsibilities.
