PM appoints Qatari Princess as Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s mountains and tourism
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Qatari royalty, Sheikha Asma Al Thani, as the official brand ambassador for Pakistan’s mountains and tourism.
The announcement came via a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), in which the Prime Minister praised the Qatari princess for her recent triumph in scaling the formidable 8,126-meter-high Nanga Parbat — the ninth-highest peak in the world and the second highest in Pakistan.
Sheikha Asma made history as the first Qatari woman to summit Nanga Parbat, hoisting her country’s flag atop the "Killer Mountain," renowned for its deadly slopes and unpredictable weather.
Commending her achievement, Prime Minister Sharif called it “inspiring” and “worthy of imitation,” noting that her determination sends a powerful message of courage and resilience while also symbolizing the deepening friendship between Pakistan and Qatar.
"Majestic mountains calling! I am pleased to appoint Her Highness Sheikha Asma Al Thani as the Brand Ambassador for Pakistan’s Mountains and Tourism," Sharif wrote. "Her achievement sends a powerful message of courage and determination, and stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Qatar."

In a heartfelt social media post following her expedition, Sheikha Asma shared that this was her ninth summit above 8,000 meters — and perhaps the most demanding. "This mountain tested me in a way I did not expect. The snow beneath my feet and falling rocks reminded me how fragile life can be," she wrote. "But even within this danger, there was growth, surrender, and a strength I didn’t know still existed within me."
Sheikha Asma also used her journey as a platform to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. Throughout the expedition, she wore the Palestinian flag on her attire. Upon completing the climb, she posted a quote from Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish: “This is for those who are still steadfast, for the souls that have gone, for the voices that have been silenced... May freedom find its way and justice be delayed no longer.”
