Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated Mustafa al-Kadhimi on becoming the new prime minister of Iraq,  24NewsHD TV channel reported on Friday.

Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed the hope that under Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s leadership Iraq will make strides in the field of reforms, national unity and economic development, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office in Islamabad.

According to the statement, Imran Khan also expressed the desire to work with the new Iraqi prime minister to expand the bilateral ties.

The government of Iraqi Prime Minister-designate Mustafa al-Kadhimi won a vote of confidence Thursday in Parliament in Baghdad, putting an end to more than five months of political turmoil. Lawmakers approved Al-Kadhimi and 15 of his candidates for ministerial posts, including the key defence and interior portfolios, while rejecting four others and postponing a vote on nominees to head the oil and foreign ministries.
