Minister orders to ease congestion caused by slow unloading of sugar at ports

Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has directed to reduce congestion caused by slow unloading of sugar at ports, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

Addressing a high-level meeting on ports chaired by Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry in Karachi he directed that sugar unloading should be done according to the daily capacity of the port of 4,500 tons.

On the instructions of the Prime Minister's Office, consideration is being given to importing 60 percent of sugar from Gwadar Port.

The meeting also reviewed Port Qasim's severe congestion situation in detail.

Minister for Maritime Affairs directed to improve sugar and cement operations at Port Qasim.

Berthing of ships at ports will be ensured under the "first come, first served" principle, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry directed that all institutions should keep the Ministry of Maritime Affairs informed of the cargo schedule in a timely manner.

With the effective communication and discipline, efficiency of the ports can be improved, the minister said.

Representatives of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Commerce, TCP, Ports and Cement Exporters Association participated in the meeting.
