Passage of 27th Amendment: Number game in parliament favours Govt
Govt needs 224 votes in National Assembly but it has the support of 237 members even without the support of JUI-F
For the passage of 27th Constitutional Amendment, PML-N led government needed a two-thirds majority ie, 224 votes in the National Assembly, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Interestingly, the government has the support of 237 members even without the support of JUI-F, which has 13 votes in the parliament. Currently, the parties position in the parliament stands with 125 members from the PML-N, 74 PPP, 22 MQM-Pakistan, five from the PML-Q and four lawmakers are from Tehreek-e-Istehkam.
Moreover, Muslim League Zia and National Party and Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) are also supporting the government. Furthermore, four independent members are also part of the government coalition.
On the other hand, the Opposition is limited to 89 members, including 76 independent members. If JUI-F goes into opposition, it will have 10 members, while BNP, Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen and Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) will also have one member each.
These figures show that the government's position in the National Assembly is strong and it will not face situation like 26th Amendment when government was compelled to convince JUI-F for support of the legislation.
