Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of last prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) was observed with religious zeal and fervour on Thursday as worshippers mourned the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in Karbala, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Various processions in different parts of Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Gilgit Baltistan and other cities across the country were taken out in which hundreds of thousands of mourners participated to pay homage to the great sacrifice.

Mourners in Lahore participated in the precession in the form of caravans while the main procession was taken out from Haveli Alif Shah and ended at Karbala Gamay Shah, the TV channel reported.

The Lahore police deployed hundreds of policemen, snipers and plainclothes policemen to secure the procession routes while in Karachi the mobile phone service remained suspended along the procession routes.

In Mirpur city of Azad Kashmir, the Chehlum was observed with utmost devotion and respect.

In Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan, mourners from outside the country also participated in the Chehlum procession, the TV channel reported.

The main procession in Gujrat city started from Imambargah Qasr-e-Abu Talib, Lalamusa amid tight security measures. Law enforcement agencies have been deployed along the procession route.

In Karachi, the central procession of Chehlum of the martyrs of Karbala was started from Nishtar Park where Allama Syed Shahenshah Hussain Naqvi addressed the majlis. The procession concluded at Hussainia Iranian Kharadar, Karachi.

The main procession of Chehlum of Martyrs of Karbala was taken out from Imambargah Baitul Hazan and after going on the traditional routes culminated peacefully. Strict security arrangements have been made for the peaceful conduct of the procession.
