Sindh Assembly resolution urges Centre to abolish petroleum levy

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution, urging the federal government to abolish levy on petroleum products, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

The House’s session was presided over by Speaker Awais Qadir Shah. 

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, who had moved the resolution, said that the Sindh government did not have the authority to abolish levy. “But at least, the House can demand the federal government to withdraw the tax,” he added. 

During the proceedings, MQM-P MPAs, including Taha Ahmad, created an uproar, prompting the speaker to ask them to sit down, saying the entire province was watching. 

MPA Ali Khurshidi pointed out that those sitting on treasury benches played videos while the House was in session. “Even there are some ministers who indulge in this practice,” he added. 

He said that he considered the speaker ‘impartial’.

The latter asked the MPA to hand him the list of such members of the government.
