Australian envoy falls in love with Lahori breakfasts

Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan Neil Hawkins visited Lahore the other day and besides his official appointments he also spared some time to cherish the famous breakfasts of the historic city.

Neil Hawkins enjoyed the oily Halwa Puri and then the all famous mutton paaye (sheep trotters).

The Australian envoy first attempted the Halwa Puri at a 200-year-old dhaba in Old City.

In a post he uploaded on his X account, Neil Hawkins wrote: “A perfect Lahori morning — indulged in some Halwa Puri at a 200 year old dhaba in the old city. Crispy puris, spicy channay, sweet halwa - hard to beat a Lahori breakfast.”

And then the real test came, as the envoy visited Goga Naqshbandia Mutton Channay and Bong Paaye shop. This breakfast is famous for the food-lovers having stomach of steel.

The high commissioner could not resist to say “When it comes to food, Lahore Lahore aye!”

In another post on his X account, Neil Hawkins wrote: “They told us ‘if you haven’t eaten Paaye then you haven’t really been to Lahore”. Challenge accepted! A must have for your taste buds. When it comes to food, Lahore Lahore aye!”

It may be mentioned here that Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins had a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in Lahore on Friday where he discussed a raft of issues with here.
