South Africa thrash Canada by 57 runs in T20 World Cup

South Africa launched their T20 World Cup campaign emphatically, producing a dominant all-round display to defeat Canada by 57 runs after posting an imposing 213 for 4 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Monday.

After being sent in to bat, the Proteas made full use of favourable batting conditions as Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram provided a blistering start.

The opening pair raced to 66 without loss inside the power play, immediately putting Canada’s bowlers under pressure.

 Markram went on to anchor the innings with a composed half-century, guiding South Africa past the 100-run mark while ensuring momentum never dipped.

Canada briefly clawed their way back into the contest through Ansh Patel, whose three-wicket spell slowed the scoring rate in the middle overs.

However, late-order fireworks from David Miller and Tristan Stubbs reignited the charge, pushing the total beyond the 200-run mark and leaving Canada with a daunting chase.

In reply, Canada’s pursuit of 214 never truly gathered momentum.

Lungi Ngidi delivered a devastating powerplay spell, ripping through the top order and leaving the Canadian batters reeling.

His early breakthroughs set the tone for South Africa’s dominance, and his overall four-wicket haul ensured Canada were restricted to 156 for 8, sealing a comprehensive victory for the Proteas.
