Fire erupts in Karachi's oil godown

A massive fire broke out Monday in an oil warehouse located in the Maripur area of Karachi, near Truck Dock Gate No 6, sending thick black clouds over the city and raising serious safety concerns.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the blaze began in what was initially believed to be an oil godown, but later Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) clarified that the fire reportedly started in a cloth warehouse at the New Truck Adda Maripur. 

The flames quickly spread as chemicals inside the building ignited, escalating the situation.

The Fire Brigade, alongside Rescue 1122 teams, rushed to the site. Five fire tenders and a bowser were initially deployed to combat the inferno. 

As the fire intensified, a total of six firefighting vehicles and two additional bowsers joined the operation. Pakistan Navy fire tenders and water bowsers also arrived at the scene to assist in extinguishing the blaze.

The KWSC confirmed that an uninterrupted water supply is being provided to the Fire Brigade through tankers, which will remain in service until the fire is fully controlled.

Adding to the danger, the fire has reportedly reached a nearby warehouse of LPG cylinders. 

The General Secretary of Maripur Truck Stand stated that explosions have been heard from the LPG storage area, raising fears of further escalation.

Authorities remain on high alert as efforts continue to bring the fire under control. Emergency teams are working tirelessly to prevent the flames from spreading to more hazardous zones.
