NA panel closes discussion on Anmol alias Pinky case after ANF briefing

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior on Tuesday discussed the case of alleged drug dealer Anmol alias Pinky and was informed by anti-narcotics officials that investigations and prosecution proceedings against the accused were continuing.

The committee, chaired by Raja Khurram Nawaz, received a detailed briefing from anti-narcotics authorities regarding the status of the case.

Officials informed lawmakers that the mobile phone and other electronic devices seized from Anmol alias Pinky were currently in the custody of the Cyber Crime Wing for forensic examination. They said the forensic report of the devices was expected to be released soon.

According to anti-narcotics officials, a case dating back to September 2019 had been registered against the accused, who had been declared a proclaimed offender in the matter.

The committee was told that authorities had already blocked the accused's passport and national identity card, while her assets and bank accounts linked to the case had also been frozen.

Officials said prosecution proceedings were underway but added that all details could not be disclosed publicly at this stage. A comprehensive written report on the case was submitted to the committee.

During the meeting, Chairman Raja Khurram Nawaz said the matter had been referred to the committee by the National Assembly speaker and that a report had also been sought from Punjab authorities.

Committee member Nabeel Gabol said the case was serious and raised questions about allegations surrounding the accused and individuals allegedly linked to her.

He claimed that Anmol had been involved in drug trafficking for many years and questioned the circumstances surrounding the investigation and custody of the accused. Gabol also referred to a recent drug-related death in his constituency and alleged that material linked to Anmol alias Pinky had been recovered from the deceased.

Responding to questions, the Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Sindh said records of communications related to the case were with cybercrime investigators and reiterated that an ANF case against the accused had existed since 2019.

During the discussion, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry defended the functioning of state institutions, while Gabol expressed reservations over past investigations handled by law enforcement agencies.

After reviewing the briefing and written report, the Standing Committee on Interior decided to dispose of the matter, effectively closing its consideration of the case.

The allegations discussed during the meeting remain subject to ongoing legal proceedings, and any determination of criminal liability will be made by the relevant courts.
