An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Wednesday accepted the application filed by President Arif Alvi, in which he had conveyed to the court that he wanted to waive the immunity from prosecution granted to him by the constitution, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The court will now give its decision on the acquittal pleas filed by the president as well as other Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including some federal ministers, in the parliament attack case, on March 15, 2022.

A few days ago, President Alvi had gone to the ATC and conveyed to it that he did not want to avail the facility of immunity in the case because after studying Islamic jurisprudence he had reached the conclusion that it is un-Islamic.

The PTI leaders, who have filed acquittal applications in the court, are federal ministers Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervez Khattak, Asad Umar and Shafqat Mehmood, other PTI leaders namely Jahangir Khan Tareen, Khurram Nawaz, Saifullah Niazi and Ejaz Chaudhry.

The court had acquitted Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was the PTI chairman, at the time of an attack on parliament, on October 29, 2020.
