Two children drown in water pit in Karachi

Two young boys drowned in a water-filled pit on a vacant plot in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area on Saturday, 24NewsHD TV reported.

According to police and rescue officials, the incident took place in Dhani Bakhsh Goth, located within the Site Super Highway jurisdiction, where the children reportedly entered the stagnant water to cool off amid intense heat.

Locals, with the help of volunteers from the Chhipa Welfare Association rescue service, recovered the bodies from the pit and shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

According to Chhipa spokesperson Chaudhry Shahid, the deceased were identified as 11-year-old Waseem, son of Siddiq, and 10-year-old Muhammad Zeeshan, son of Ameer Muhammad.

Both children were residents of the same locality.

They said the boys drowned while bathing in the accumulated rainwater or groundwater inside the pit on the empty plot.
