The fire at Centaurus, the biggest mall in the federal capital, was put out after two-hour hectic efforts, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported Sunday.
Rescuers, firefighters, and lawmen from the civil and armed forces joined the firefighting mission. No causalities were reported as all the people have been evacuated safely, according to mall management.
The Fire Brigade, Pak Navy, Air Force, and Rescue took part in the fire-fighting op, the Islamabad chief commissioner said.
Three fire tenders reached the spot and assisted in putting out the blaze, a spokesperson for the Pak Navy said.
Reports said a delay in the arrival of rescue teams resulted in an increase in the intensity of the fire.
The blaze broke out at the Monal restaurant and engulfed the entire food courts in seconds, sources said.
Flames and thick smoke billowing from the mall can be seen from the remote areas.
Following the order of the Deputy Commissioner, the mall has been sealed off, according to a spokesperson.
After the completion of the rescue operation, the building of the shopping mall has been sealed off and it remained closed in connection with the investigation to find out the cause, the authorities stated. No one will be allowed to enter the shopping mall, it is ordered.
