A warm welcome to New Year

Like around the world, the people accorded a warm welcome to New Year across the country, 24NewsHD TV channel reported.

Special events were organized to welcome 2022 in major cities including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Prayers, spectacular show of colourful lights, cake cutting ceremonies, display of light shows were held to accord a warm welcome to the New Year in major parts of the country. 

In Karachi, where rangers were called in to avert any untoward incident on the eve, people came out to say goodbye to the last sunset of 2021 at the Seaview.  In Lahore, people took to the banks of the Ravi River to bid farewell to last year. Though security has been stepped up sporadic incidents of aerial firing and one-wheeling were reported in the provincial capital.  

Special measures were taken in the federal capital, Islamabad, to maintain the orders. Fireworks are banned in Lahore while motorcycle restrained in Islamabad and the Section 144 was enforced in Karachi to maintain law and order. Braving the extreme cold, people took to the streets in Lahore where Liberty Market for dance and other celebratory moves and special lightening at Bahria Town remained a source of attraction for the revellers.

Similar events were organized in Karachi and Islamabad. Moreover, a good number of people reached Murree to mark the event at the hill station. Tourists flock to Jim Ghafir Mall Road to celebrate New Year's Eve in Murree. Tourists in Murree are very excited about the arrival of the year 2022 in cold weather.

Politicians and noted people posted messages on social media expressing good wishes for the New Year.  Though the last year was dubbed a year of crisis as deadly covid kept taking lives and adding to economic woes, people expressed hope the New Year will dawn with a relief from such serious situation.
