Federal Minister for Information Senator Shibli Faraz Monday said that RSS and BJP-led Indian government launched a campaign of baseless and false allegations against the staff of Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.

Faraz said the arrest and torture of diplomatic staff is a heinous and highly reprehensible act.

“The aim of the campaign is to cover up their crimes, bring global stigma against minorities and divert attention from state terrorism against unarmed Kashmiris in occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Faraz said India should be held accountable for its illegal behaviour as India is guilty of aggression against all its neighbours in the region.

Two Pakistan officials expelled by India over spying allegations returned home Monday, an embassy spokesman said, as the nuclear-armed rivals wrangled over the claims.

AFP reported that Indian government said Sunday that the two Pakistan officials had been detained for "indulging in espionage activities", and given 24 hours to leave the country.

The move came amid heightened tensions between the arch-rivals foes over the Himalayan region of Kashmir, which was split between them in 1947 when they gained independence from Britain. India media said the two officials -- both working in the embassy visa department -- had been detained Sunday while trying to obtain information on an Indian security establishment.
