PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Friday warned that narrative and statements of Prime Minister Imran Khan could make Karachi another New York.

New York is the worst US city hit by the coronavirus where so far over 18,000 people have been killed.

He warned that the coronavirus was spreading at an alarming rate in the city, especially the poor neighbourhoods. Do your job whether you are selected or elected, the PPP chairman remarked.

Every effort aimed at developing national unity to fight the pandemic had been sabotaged, he said.

Addressing a press conference, Bilawal blasted Imran and his team for attacking the Sindh government day and night as well as undermining the policy of urging the people to stay at home.

The PPP chairman asked the prime minister who were elite that he had mentioned and reminded him that the decision to extend the lockdown till May 9 was taken at a meeting of National Coordination meeting on the suggestion of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Every province has been let down by the federal government, Bilawal said while citing the episodes of Taftan and Raiwind congregation.

He remarked that although the best performing Sindh chief minister was being targeted, no one asking any question to the one who had said “how does the corona bites?”

Someone must explain to Imran what kind of disastrous effects his narrative and statements could have, said Bilawal.

The way the provinces and the people are being ignored has no precedence in the country’s history, he said and told Imran that he was in the government, not on container.

The Centre has not given even a single penny to enhance testing capabilities and healthcare capacity as well as providing personal protection equipment to health professionals, Bilawal said.

The federal government, he added, had the fiscal space for providing resources, as he mentioned the assistance provided by the international financial institutions and the low oil prices in international.

Bilawal questioned for which purpose the federal government wanted to spend the money.

About food security amid the pandemic, he said the Centre had done to tackle the locust attack. Eliminating the locusts was the federal government’s responsibility even after the 18th Amendment, he remarked and added that everyone talked against the 18th Amendment but didn’t do his job.

Bilawal said the federal government had failed on all fronts, including fighting the coronavirus, providing relief to daily wagers and boosting the economy.
