Senate to elect new chairman, deputy chairman on April 9

President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the Senate to meet at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Tuesday, the 9th April 2024 at 09:00 am, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The President on Monday summoned the Senate session in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

According to the TV channel, the newly-elected senators will take oath.

The Upper House of the Parliament will also elect chairman and deputy chairman.

According to a notification issued by the Senate secretariat, new chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate will be elected during the session.

The Senate session will start at 9:00 am on April 9 at the Parliament House in Islamabad.

The Senate offices will remain at 8:00 am on Tuesday and the staff will depart 30 minutes after the end of the session.

Separately, the PTI has also filed a motion against the election of Senate chairman at the Senate Secretariat on Monday.

The PTI application bears the signatures of Senators Zarqa Taimoor, Saif Abro, Falak Naz Chitrali, Fauzia Arshad and Saifullah Niazi.
